NCISLA Preview: “Beacon” (S6E21)

Beacon 2
“Beacon”

Airing: April 20th

Filming: March 16th to March 25th

What CBS is telling us: “Beacon” – Callen and Sam are shocked when an old acquaintance, who they thought was the recent victim of a murder, appears and asks for their help. As the team investigates, they uncover a possible breach of America’s economic sanctions against Russia, on NCIS: LOS ANGELES, Monday, April 20 (9:59-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

What we think is happening: Well, I am hoping that the old acquaintance is Arkady since things look bad for him in the promos/previews. I am surprised we’ve waited this long to see Arkady again. He had a small and unfriendly appearance in “The 3rd Choir” (not the delightful Arkady we loved in “Wanted” or “Reznikov, N.”).

Joelle is in the episode. Callen teased early in the season that Jo will be “connected to someone that we’ve seen in several past episodes.” Could that be Arkady?

With the CBS’s season finales release, I think our friends the Russians come back front and center for the final few episodes.

Be on the lookout:  GUEST CAST

Vyto Ruginis as Arkady Kolcheck
Arkady! You’re back! You were missed! I love Arkady! I loved him in “Pushback”, “Tin Soldiers” (sneak great episode), “Neighborhood Watch”, “Rude Awakenings” Part Two, “Wanted”, “Reznikov, N.” and “The 3rd Choir”.

Elizabeth Bogush as Joelle Taylor
Jo! You’re back! Appeared in both “War Cries” and “Humbug”. Bogush is going to be on CW’s The Messengers.

Aisha Kabia as Coast Guard Lieutenant Joyce Kelly
Appeared in a number of dramas (CSI: Miami, Criminal Minds, Chuck, Three Rivers, Knight Rider (2008) and Moonlight). Was Kara (Brad’s girlfriend) on How I Met Your Mother in season two.

Dan Warner as Man with Hoodie/Brett Smith
Plays a lot of security guards/cops/marshals/sheriffs in movies and television series, including the mothership’s “Chained” episode.

Matt Stasi as Patrick Berkeley
Handful of supporting roles in films/shorts and guest star roles on CSI: Miami and the original Beverly Hills 90210.

Elena Evangelo as Elia Berkeley
FBI Agent Susan Heller in season three of Justified, Gabby on The Young and the Restless about seven years ago and appeared in episodes of Parenthood, House, Revenge, Victorious, Monk, Las Vegas, Windfall, Alias and NYPD Blue.

Masterminds:

WRITTEN BY: Jordana Lewis Jaffe
Wrote or co-wrote “Honor”, “Patriot Acts”, “Dead Body Politic”, “Paper Soldiers”, “Unwritten Rule”, “Big Brother”, “Iron Curtain Rising”, “Exposure” and “Savior Faire”.

DIRECTED BY: Diana C. Valentine
“Lokhay”, “Fallout”, Three Hearts”, “The 3rd Choir” and “Forest for the Trees”.

The two women reviewing the episode with executive producer Shane Brennan:

Renee Felice Smith thought this was the first time the program had a female writer teamed with a female director (it is not – “Overwatch” was – hat tip to tumblr user chrisodonline) but still a picture of the two women in charge up in Ops:

Insider Intel: Nothing up this week so far.

Official Photographic Evidence: Straight from CBS:

It looks like Kensi and Deeks are in Arkady’s home while Sam chills at the pool with towel guy Callen.

Unofficial Surveillance:

Actor Dan Warner shows off his script and his character’s wardrobe:

Aisha Kabia posted a photo of herself in her character’s Coast Guard uniform.

@jacqniv Twitter/Instagram accounts are a source of behind the scenes photos, usually posted day of or the days just after the episodes air.

LL Cool J has been loading short scenes as well to his Instagram account on the day of the episode.

Video Surveillance:

Preview:

Monday at 10PM – action and explosions.

Sneak Peek #1:

The team actually seems far more upset about Arkady’s apparent death than Callen. Could Callen be running a con on everyone?

Sneak Peek #2:

I thought Callen and Arkady were friends. Something is up here.

Off next week (rerun of “In The Line of Duty”) and then back for the final three episodes of season six!

Interesting note on whether Callen may be in on Arkady faking his death – that thought has actually crossed my mind…There is still great debate as to whether Joelle will be the relationship Callen has that is connected to his past. IMO i’m holding out for Callen to split with Jo and for him to start a relationship with someone else connected to (presumably) Arkady? But maybe that happens in finale. The Russians are definitely coming…

    • I wondered if Jo wasn’t connected to Arkady or a Russian plot in some way. She could have been assigned to watch Michelle (CIA) and Sam (NCIS) and got the great good fortune of being introduced to their friend Callen.

What a detailed preview! Thanks for compiling all this. Can’t wait to see if your theories pan out.
There is definitely something amiss. And it’s not just that the white T shirt is not a V neck 🙂

  3. I thought Callen acted in shock and denial of Arkady being dead. I saw his eyes glisten and trying to process the fact. Way more reaction than seeing Joelle held hostage.

  4. For the love of everything Densi, where is Deeks’ backstory? IA investigation?

    Callen! Callen! Callen!

    • This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I’m fine with the IA investigation going into next season. I don’t want this rush into the final few episodes. Make it like Kensi’s investigation into her father’s death – something that is heavily foreshadowed for a good number of episodes before things really start moving. I don’t want a quick episode or two to this storyline. When I get my “Deeks, M” episode (or two-parter “Brandel, M.” followed by “Deeks, M.”), I want the foundation for what happens to be solid.

  5. Barrett Foa just put up this scene. Surfers should really look out for each other.
