NCISLA Classified Preview: “Matryoshka, Part 2” (S7E16)

NCISLA_MATRYOSHKAPT2_1

Title: “Matryoshka” Part Two

Airing: February 22nd

Filming:   November 30th to December 8th

What CBS is telling us: While they’re in Russia, Callen, Sam and Anna (Bar Paly) craft a plan to break Anna’s father and his CIA agent companion out of prison. Also, Special Agent G. Callen finally learns what the “G” in his name stands for, and in Los Angeles, Kensi and Deeks take Eric into the field on an assignment, on part two of a special two-part episode of NCIS: LOS ANGELES.

What we think is happening: Callen finally gets the answers he has spent a lifetime – both the character’s and the program’s – looking for in “Matryoshka” Part Two.  By the way, we’re 2/3rd of the way through Season 7.  Time is flying.

While on The Talk last week, there were “bumpers” (the video clips going in and out of commercial breaks) of Monday’s episode while LL Cool J was promoting his Grammys hosting duties.  Sam on a horse, Arkady on a horse.  Sam not looking thrilled to be with Arkady or on a horse.

Be on the lookout: GUEST CAST:

Vyto Ruginis as Arkady Kolcheck
Bar Paly as Anastasia “Anna” Kolcheck
Salvator Xuereb as Balinski/CIA Officer Randall Sharov

All three are back from part one.

Daniel J. Travanti as Garrison

Travanti was seen at the very end of the Season 6 finale, “Chernoff, K.”

Hmmmm, possible Daddy Callen has a name with a “G”….hmmmm. Garrison has a military meaning – a home base for troops. Could Chernoff /Garrison be an American or pro-West outpost in Russia during the old Cold War days?

Zack Sayenko as Vlad Lukov

Sayenko was a busboy in “Iron Curtin Rising” – this is probably a very different role.

David S. Lee as Pavel Volkoff

Was in “Chernoff, K.” in the same role. He was Arkady’s reluctant protégé.

Jonno Roberts as CIA Analyst Robert Lester

Roberts was the abusive husband of Reese’s ex-girlfriend on Person of Interest, Jeffrey Hodgins on Bones and had guest roles in a number of procedurals including Elementary, CSI: Miami, Detroit 1-8-7, Lie to Me, Without A Trace, Medium, CSI: NY, Shark, The Unit, Numb3rs, Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent – as well as a number of comedies and general dramas (Brotherhood, Love Money, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys) and As the World Turns.

Played Scott Pell in the “Friends and Lovers” episode of the mothership.

Jeremy Brandt as Navy Seal Commander Dave

Appeared in episodes of Kingdom, Love Bites, Knight Rider (2008), Lincoln Heights, The OC, Criminal Minds and Alias, usually as members of the uniformed services of CIA Agents/spies. Was in the “Family Secret” episode of NCIS in Season 3 as a corpsman.

Hosted the unscripted series Jobs That Bite on NatGeo and Motor City Motors on Discovery.

Ward Roberts as Artem Fedor

Was a pilot in the “Agent Afloat” episode of NCIS, appeared regularly in the Spike series MANswers and had guest roles on CSI: NY, Hawaii Five-0 and Marvel’s Agent Carter.

Alexander Chernyshev as Prison Guard Driver

A few credits in short films.

Masterminds:

WRITTEN BY: Kyle Harimoto and R. Scott Gemmill

The two wrote “Matryoshka” Part One. Harimoto wrote “Omni”, “Merry Evasion”, “Chernoff, K.” and “Command and Control”, co-wrote “Three Hearts”, “Leipei” and “Humbug”.

Scott Gemmill wrote or co-wrote “The Only Easy Day”, “Brimstone”, “Breach”, “LD50”, “Found”, “Borderline”, “Absolution”, “Archangel”, “Tin Soldiers”, “Impostors”, “Cyberthreat”, “Honor”, “The Watchers” and both sides of the NCIS Los: Angeles/Hawaii Five-0 “Touch of Death” episodes, “Recruit”, “Free Ride”, “Wanted”, “Ravens and The Swans”, “Impact”, “War Cries”, both ends of the “Deep Trouble” Season 5 finale/Season 6 premiere, “Inelegant Heart”, “Praesidium”, “Traitor”, “Active Measures”, “Blame It On Rio” and “Internal Affairs”.

 DIRECTED BY: Terrence O’Hara

O’Hara is a regular director on all three NCIS series. “The Only Easy Day”, “Brimstone”, “The Bank Job”, “Borderline”, “Tin Soldiers”, “The Job”, “Backstopped”, “Crimeleon”, “Blye, K.” Part Two, “San Voir” Part Two, “End Game”, “Paper Soldiers”, “Descent”, “Ascension”, “Fish Out of Water”, “Blaze of Glory” and “Command and Control” (episode 150). O’Hara also directed the Christmas episode of NCIS, which was incredibly touching.

Insider Intel
: Nothing up this week so far but I’d be surprised if there are not articles showing up in the next few days. The central mystery of the series is getting answered – even the NCIS: Los Angeles twitter account agrees – CBS will want to promote that.

Not a lot of set photos this week after the glorious sunset photos from the mansion last week.

Preview:

Sneak Peek #1:

Looks like Kensi and Deeks will be ushering in the Eric Beale as occasional field agent era.

Sneak Peek #2:

Nice call back to the fact that Sam doesn’t like anyone else cleaning and maintaining his gun.

Obviously a Callen-heavy hour.
