NCISLA Classified Preview: “Ghost Gun” (S8E05)

Title: “Ghost Gun”

Airing:  October 23rd

Filming:  August 30 to September 9th with Daniela Ruah’s scenes shot in early July.

What CBS is telling us:   The murder of a navy machinist with high security clearance sends the team on a city-wide hunt tracking evidence. Also, Anna Kolcheck (Bar Paly) partners with Callen, and Sam assists Hetty in the on-going mole investigation, on NCIS: LOS ANGELES.

What we think is happening:  Anna is back, as is already outed mole Carl Brown, as the clock is running on Hetty’s mole investigation/possible resignation.  Also returning are Roberta Deeks and Dr. Adams in the Kensi and Deeks part of the story.

  1. Oh Lord, that scene with Deeks and Hetty is a heart breaker. Thanks for the info

  2. Thanks so much for this. I was not so excited about this one when I saw the endless photos of the return of Anna, but the sneak peeks of Sam with Carl, Deeks with Roberta and Deeks with Hetty made this a must watch episode. I love Roberta and how she interacts with her son. The scene with Hetty and Deeks reminded me how much I love the scenes between ECO and Hetty, they are both so good, and this one broke my heart.

    • I think Kensi’s condition, no matter what the “case of the week” has the team focused on solving, will be a part of everything Deeks does. Add in Nell’s feelings about “replacing” Kensi in the field – this storyline is going to matter in every episode until Daniela Ruah returns fulltime.

      Thanks for the nice feedback!

And the site is amazing – there are such talented people here writing stories, creating artwork – honored they let me hang with the cool kids.

  6. Oh my bad; I meant to add a fan posted on the YouTube site (Deeks and his Mom at the hospital) and put it together that Linda Hunt and Pamela Reed were in Kindergarten Cop together; I appreciated that bit of movie trivia! Pretty Trippy!!

    • No problem! The show does a great job of finding these wonderful actors and giving them such great parts – Linda Hunt, Miguel Ferrer, Daniel J. Travanti, Pamela Reed. I’d love to see who they could get to play Sam’s father.

  7. got to admit, the sneak peeks have me looking a little more forward to the episode than I was…
fingers crossed…that being said, apparently I have taken it upon myself to be the head nitpicker lately., go figure. Anyhoo, here are a few observation and talking points that bother me.
1 ) I get that Deeks is self doubting and the scene with Hetty was emotional. However, instead of wondering if he could take care of her, i would have preferred for Deeks to how he would keep his job if he had to stay with Kensi, or something like that. something reconfirming his commitment to her, not doubting if he could stick around for her long tome if she didn’t recover fully. just struck me wrong I guess. Especially after the whole internal affairs thing and Kensi’s display of total support, I would have liked to see the same unwavering commitment from him.
2 ) I like Roberta ( Mrs Deeks), but I am developing a serious issue with how they portray the character. I get that she is supposed to be a simple, plain, down to earth woman. However, they have made her look foolish to a point. Even when we first met her, she gave a deep, thoughtful look at Kensi when meeting Kensi. Her response was a, OK, I got this, kind of thing,…. not a oh well, i will just schlep back to the kitchen. Since then, it has been strange to witness. Her, distress over Marty’s house being searched was understandable, the Jonny Cochrin statement aside. Kinda cute, right?. then she shows up at Kensi’s house with food an tries to clean up…. worried and keeping busy, I get it. Also understandable and funny. Roberta discussing a sealed juvi record and the shooting of his dad …IN A JAIL… unbelievable. OK she messed up. we can forgive her. Flash forward to the hospital. Now she is telling strangers about secret agents….REALLY! oh come on, really. it is one thing to portray her as a simple housewife, but a complete dodo, unacceptable. Are the showrunners trying to present her as something less than a Rhodes Scholar ? That’s fine. I get that they want to set up Deeks backstory that he got through law school on his own and came from a rough beginning, but I am not clear what they are trying to do here. it is almost like they are saying that she is bellow par intellectually to help justify why she stayed with such an abusive man in Marty’s father and did not protect him from the abuse. I can’t think of why else the want her to appear that she is borderline challenged.

I have probably made several insensitive and politically incorrect statements. I apologize if I have done so.. my point was that just because she does not come from money, doesn’t have a college degree, and leads a simple life, does not mean that she still believes the world is flat, is incapable of tying her shoes or walking and chewing gum at the same time. I think she is a fantastic actress and like the character, just stop making her look quite so inept please…

here is where you tell me I am completely over reacting. Thanks

    • You’re not overreacting.

I don’t know if Roberta has a college education or money in the bank. They haven’t given us that much background for her. What I think they’re showing is a woman who loves her son, loves the woman her son loves and wants them to be safe and happy. She was worried about their careers in “Internal Affairs” and now Kensi’s injuries are everything she feared. This isn’t how she planned on spending time with someone she hopes will be her daughter-in-law. She’s angry and upset.

I’d like to think when push comes to shove, as she did with Deeks in “Internal Affairs” last season, she’ll rise to the occasion.

      • I agree with completely with Tess!! I love Pamela Reed as Deeks Mom; I think she’s a hoot plus she does dramatic so seamlessly; love her! Her and ECO are great together!

    • I’m relieved that I saw this fuller clip of the “I can’t do that” and it was just Deeks 2nd guessing himself as he’s kinda running on empty with this taking so long. I can relate to situations like that and wondering if I had what it takes to get the other person through it. I kinda wondered if they were trying to show this side of Roberta as one who evidently falls apart during crisis(even if it does seem just SLIGHTLY overdone)? That would maybe indicate why he doesn’t list her on that “call in case of emergency” card?

Couldn’t agree more about Anna – except for getting Nell out of the field I wish she’d just vanish!

I’m kinda wondering if I shouldn’t watch these promos anymore :-). They do steal a little from the actual showing, I think.

  8. forgot to say what a great preview you put together, thank you.
…and, hey….I just realized i made it all the way through my previous comment without a single statement about how much I dislike Anna….amazing.
….don’t like her, don’t like her, don’t like her, don’t like her, don’t like her,
    there, that’s better.

    • Thank you! With Kensi out of the mix, I do think we’ll be seeing more of Anna (sorry!).

      Liked by 1 person

      • Actually at this point I like that Anna is in this episode. All this Super Girl Nell ridiculousness has to stop. I have way too many issues with Nell in the field to list. Not that I like Anna that much more but at least it will give (hopefully) less screen time to “Nellverine” ah man that just gets me! I do have a feeling Anna may become a love interest for Callen; which makes sense. I’ll just have to tune in to find out. Please have Kensi wake up soon; move the story along P-L-E-A-S-E!
PS — the scene with ECO and Linda Hunt is just golden, period!

  10. Love seeing Deeks Mum back. I think there is more heartbreak for Deeks coming and I pray they don’t mess with Densi. I will be so angry if they do. I keep thinking back to comments made by Eric that this storyline was great for this couple so I am holding on to that.
Cant stand Anna. Don’t like her one bit and wish she would go away.

    • I love Pamela Reed and she’s terrific with ECO.

I would imagine that with all good relationships, the hard times make the good times sweeter. I’m looking forward to what they have planned for Kensi and Deeks. They’ve done smart things with them since since six.

  11. Thanks Tess for your preview which is always a pleasure to read before the episode airs.
I also enjoyed reading all the others’ comments and opinions.

I have liked the sneak peek with Deeks and Hetty very much: I think Deeks’ words and reaction are very human, I don’t judge him, he love Kensi, obviously, and despite all the tough moments of the past episodes, I think he has never thought of “abandoning” her, but he’s wondering what she may need WHEN she wakes up, what kind of help, what kind of rehabilitation. He’s very genuine and realistic, he’s not a super hero, neither a wizard, and although we have a feeling that he may have been through a lot in his life, this is probably the first time in which he faces a real threat to the possible happy future he was starting to plan and taste with the the love of his life (marriage, kids, career change, etc…).

I really can’t wait to watch the episode, even if I’m not a fan of Anna and the way they are pushing her towards Callen, but I was starting to be quite fed up with Nell in the field, so I hope this time she’ll just do her job in OPS.
I also hope with all my heart this is the episode Kensi wakes up. I don’t know how much longer I can stand seeing her in that bed….

    • Thank you for your kind words. What makes this fandom so special is how smart everyone is and the great opinions they share. Love things here.

Deeks’s concern about being “that guy” makes perfect sense. You know he would do anything for her but the question is will he be able. It is a very real and very Deeks reaction. It was good to see Hetty be there for him, reminding him he’s not alone when it comes to helping Kensi.

I’m with you on Kensi waking up – it is time to start the whatever rehabilitation she needs to return to the team.
