Drabble of the Week: Skip a Step

“For the record, I think it’s highly unfair that Joelle got to see Sam’s boat and we haven’t.”

“Just eat your eggrolls.”

Rearing back in the navy leather booth, Deeks pushed out a melodramatic gasp. “Do you think she met Otis?”

“I doubt she was that privileged,” Kensi murmured, abandoning her fork for a moment, leaning back against her side of the booth. “You should probably worry about calling your mom anyway.”

“Why exactly?”

Cocking her head towards the phone resting beside her plate, both her eyebrows lifted. “She was texting me pictures of wedding dresses on the drive over here.”

Cringing slightly, he shrugged, gesture half apologetic. “At least it’s better than the nursery ideas.”

“Not really,” curling her fingers around her fork again, she pierced several noodles and one shrimp. “We haven’t even begun wedding plans, but apparently we’re already picking out baby names.”

Tilting his head to the side, Deeks fixated his gaze on the wall behind her head, not truly seeing it. “I’ll drop Princess Sunshine if you drop Greek mythology.”

“We could still have a boy.”

“Technically we could have both,” he dropped his eyes back to hers, smirking and then accepting her light kick beneath the table; twins weren’t quite on the agenda.

“And a wedding date?”

“Preferably a day when Guy is already booked up.”
