  1. You’re really great at writing the Surf Log and I’ll be so sorry to see it go when WikiDeeks winds down. Maybe I’ll catch your writing on Facebook or Twitter. I hope so.

  3. Thanks – you are both quite sweet. I’ll share here I have a love-hate relationship with this Log. It has meant taking notes while watching the episode and thinking more deeply about Deeks’ take on things, which has meant sacrificing watching the show from a purely entertaining standpoint. As we bring back this threaded storyline for the end of the season, I realize how much I missed in not paying attention to how these cases were linked to bring us to this point. Maybe it’s not the focus on the Log, but rather a difference in the writers/their writing? I’m not sure. All I know is I’m feeling lost in the plot, just the opposite of when they brought the Siderov story to a climax.

I’ve found myself dreading Monday mornings (more than usual), knowing the Surf Log is another thing in my task list that must get done. (And don’t even get me started on the football delays.) It started to feel like a monkey on my back. (And again, perhaps this was also due to ECO absence and writing shifts?)

Yet EVERY time I finally sat down to craft it, including this morning, I found myself diving in head-first. I felt immersed in that world and had escaped my own, even for a brief period of time. The Log has provided a sense of pride and accomplishment. I’m still stunned when someone says I got the “voice right”, as I have no training in writing, only in advising. (It’s the same feeling I got when a judge told me I beautifully and accurately interpreted music in color guard choreography – a very different life!) Thus, I’m feeling conflict about what I might do/where I might go after this summer and with wikiDeeks shutting down.

Thanks for your support and stay tuned to see what might be decided!
