NCISLA Classified Preview: “A Line in the Sand” (S9E23)/”Ninguna Salida” (S9E24)

Titles:  “A Line in the Sand”/”Ninguna Salida”
Airing:  May 20th
Filming:  Late March, early April.
What CBS is telling us:   Sam is shot during a firefight with a cartel, and a suspect reveals new information on the whereabouts of Spencer Williams (Lamont Thompson), the man who kidnapped Mosley’s son five years ago. Despite several team members having grave reservations, NCIS travels to Mexico for a daring mission to locate and rescue Mosley’s son, on back-to-back episodes of the ninth season finale of NCIS: LOS ANGELES.
What we think is happening:  Frank Military is back and Sam is shot – worrisome.  Kensi and Deeks are fighting (“Line in the Sand”?) – worrisome.  The team is off on a daring mission to rescue Mosley’s son – worrisome.  It is the season nine finale but the program will return for season ten – not worrisome.  Frank Military – still worrisome.  Oh, “Ninguna Salida” translates to “no exit” or “no way out” in Spanish.

  1. Thanks for your preview of this long-awaited two-hour Season 9 finale which, to be honest, I’m really looking forward to.

The idea that something very serious may happen to the team in Mexico and all of us may be left wondering all summer about possible scenarios is truly scary! But we know this is often how season finales are written on purpose and I guess we have to play along.
I’m quite worried about Deeks and Kensi and their relationship, though. Will it survive the season finale and the mission to Mexico as strong as it was? Will one of them leave NCIS (Deeks’ plan B of running a bar has never seemed more consistent)? Will they both leave (more unlikely)? Might there still be the chance to see a three-minute Densi wedding crammed inside a very angsty 120-minute episode? Once again realizing that life is very short and it’s quite silly to argue over the number of guests, venues and the color of tablecloths? So many questions, I know…

Although the showrunners kind of hinted (but never confirmed) we might have a Densi wedding this season, I could also accept to see them married in Season 10, as long as we were assured of where they stand and, more importantly that neither of the characters/actors are leaving. What I would find more annoying, though, is if Deeks and Kensi got married off-screen during the summer hiatus! This would be the evidence we Densi fans have done something wrong to TPTB but I honestly can’t think of anything…

The idea that next NCIS:LA season won’t be accompanied by your weekly previews makes me very sad, but I want to thank you anyway for what you did for us fans over the years. It’s always been a pleasure to read your previews and have all the episodes information in one place. I’m sure next season I will miss WikiDeeks so much. All the best to everyone.

    • Thank you for the kind words – this has been so much fannish fun over the last few years. I’m so glad you like it.

My hope is that everyone is employed, alive and back for season ten. They can fix whatever happens in season ten – just let’s all get there. I’m guessing no on the wedding but you never know.

      Thanks again!

  2. Tess,
Sorry to see this is your last review. My wife and I love the fact that you give all the supporting actors’ previous appearances on different shows, so we know where we’ve seen them before.

What I think is worrisome is that R. Scott’s “reset” has been a failure all season and when filming the last episode, he didn’t know if they were going to be renewed, so anything can happen. Everyone knows he shouldn’t be around sharp objects, like helicopter blades and explosions. I’m not looking forward to a massive cliffhanger for the next three months.

I’ve already read all of your fan fiction stories 20 times over and I can recite them from memory, so unless you write new ones, it’s going to be a long summer. One thing about your fan fiction is the way you portray your OC’s in a way that makes you want more, like Invincible Summer cries for a sequel . . . hint, hint.

You will be missed and I will continue to follow you on fan fiction.

    • Thank you so much! I’m honored you enjoy my stories.

I have a feeling they knew they were more likely than not coming back – they’re a highly rated show on a very competitive night (football, “Walking Dead”, etc.) and the fans come back every week. I’m all for the explosions and what not and a cliffhanger is fine if they’re not teasing us with a “will Callen and Sam” make it (like in “Deep Trouble” 1). We know that answer – give me a cliffhanger that really is a cliffhanger.

      Thank you again.

  3. Tess,
as always, this is fantastic, thank you so much.
It almost doesn’t seem real that this is the last one…
it feels so odd. I read it a second time, then paused, staring at the last the last sentences, the final words.
    just thinking…
    that’s it.
    this is the end.
    I will miss it dearly
it does not quite feel real yet.

I appreciate all you have done beyond words.
    thank you so much.

Thank you for the so very kind words.
I don’t usually take myself very seriously, but occasionally it does happen. Now is one of those times.
I am sorry to hear you have had some recent struggles and I am glad that there is improvement.
I hope things continue to get better for you.
If anything I have done, whether intentional or not, was able to put a smile on you face, create some laughter, or provide some small distraction from your challenges, I find it truly humbling.

Thank you is really not enough for this and all the great previews you have given us fans. These previews are such a wonderful treat for me since I often see many of the social media posts on Tumblr but cannot keep straight which goes with which episode.

The finale looks very exciting and I think TPTB have done a good job getting people interested in watching . I am also very pleased to see the actors publicizing this episode.

As others have said, I will certainly miss you, I will still see you on Tumblr, and I am hoping for a new fan fiction . I am rereading “Commander ” right now. I hope you keep writing my favorite character.

    • Thank you so much! So happy you are rereading “Commander” – I will always owe the incredibly talented lightedwindows/sandyk for that one.

I think the finale looks great – glad they are hopefully wrapping up the Mosley missing son story because that is such a sad one.

      Thank you again.

  5. Tess,
Thank you for the wonderful previews that you have done over the years. I will echo the others. I find myself reading g your fanfiction frequently. I love Invincible Summer. I would love a sequel. I had not realized Frank Military was writing one of these episodes. He is my favorite writer and worrisome as his writing is intense. I am looking forward to tomorrow night. I saw ECO’s post and wonder if it is as close to saying goodbye so to not spoiler the episode. They have been very quiet about it. I agree with everyone that his running a bar seems so out of character and potentially dangerous for undercover agents. Unless, it is part of a bigger arc next season. Thank you to Wikideeks for all that you have done. You will be missed and I wish all of you the best in your next adventures. You are all so creative.

    • Thank you so much – I’m thrilled and honored.

Frank Military has written some of the toughest but smartest episode in the series – especially when it comes to Deeks. I’m just going to be happy with the finale if everyone is back in LA and back next fall.

The folks here at Wikideeks are great people with limitless talent. It has been fun just hanging around with them.

      Thank you again.

  6. Thank you for your great previews, you have done an incredible job with the previews.
Even though Frank Military is the prince of darkness he has written some of the best and most romantic Densi-scenes and I keep my fingers crossed that we will see those scenes on this Sunday too. I am so nervous about the finale, but I am hoping for the best.

    • Thank you!

I totally agree with you about Frank Military. He’s got a real feel for the best of Kensi and Deeks – not only as a couple but as professionals. I’m just rooting for everyone to be back in LA and working in season ten.

      Thank you again.

  7. I think there will be a wedding, if this episode was filmed in late March early April, the management did not know that the series would renew for a 10th season. For our part we knew very well that there would be a 10th season. So I tell myself that the season 9 should end with the wedding. Finally I cling to this theory.

  8. How things will likely wind up.
    It seems pretty obvious. Really.
Harley had always been listed as a recurring actor.
She has only been there to fill in because Nell is pregnant.
The bigger question is if they will work it into the show, maybe early next year, and have it actually be Eric’s kid.
Conceived during a Furry convention probably.
Wouldn’t the tail get in the way???
How to you actually deal with something like that?
Tuck it under? Throw it over your shoulder? Hmmm.
    I must be too sheltered.
    Ed

  9. Harley is incredibly smart.
She will leave the team at the end of the season to start her own business making bulletproof trashcans like the one DeChamps hid behind last episode.
Plans for including ballistic furniture in custom fabric patterns are part of the business plan as well, obviously.

  10. After getting her kid back, Mosley will want to spend time with him. So, I feel that she will either leave completely or work part time.
Say Tuesdays and ½ day Wednesdays…
Anyway, she is gone or in a reduced roll with Hetty back full time.
I mean really, OSP is a top secret location (with a roof viewing area, apparently).
You cant have someone dressed like Mosley going in and out all the time dressed like she is headed to a red carpet event or a premier of Hamilton. I mean, really, it is a condemned building isn’t it
So, she will not be a problem next year
    Ed

    Like

  11. wouldn’t you love for Hetty to tell Mosely that if she is going to keep coming into the building that she will have to dress the part.
Then, hand her a pair of Deeks silver coveralls and work boots and tell her to put them on.
    sounds good to me ,
    Ed

  12. DeChamps will fill in as a field agent in a part time roll next year.
It is a logistical safety issue.
Other than Kensi, she is the only potential female field agent that is actually tall enough to see over the dash of the Suburban without a booster seat if she was forced to drive in an emergency.
Nell and Harley would be a huge liability in a time critical situation.
Can you imagine Sam being shot and having one of them have to swing into the closest Costco or Target on the way to the hospital to buy a booster seat or a couple of pillows to sit on so she could see out the windows and use both mirrors???
    A true hazard.

  13. Plus,
The team can’t just shoot everybody.
Sometime, they need to subdue an opponent, silently even.
That is usually accomplished by use of a sleeper hold.
Unfortunately, due to Nell and Harley being altitude challenged (short), the percentage of bad guys that are short enough for them to grab around the neck and choke out is rather low…assuming they are out if 6th grade.

  14. I deeply hope that ECO doesn’t decide to leave or dramatically reduce his filming time on the show. I enjoy the show as a whole, but Densi is why I am so dedicated.
I would hate for this to be the end, or for things to change significantly.
I have been critical of the writing, and still think they haven’t made good use of the time that ECO was there this year.
I do not really like the way they have handled things or the direction they are taking things lately.
That being said, the writers have had a lot to work around the last few years.
Dani’s 2 pregnancies, LL’s time off for his other projects, COD’s golf tournaments, Miguel’s health issues and then passing, Linda Hunt apparently hinting at retirement and reducing her time, Renee’s pregnancy, and of course…ECO taking a lot of time off to work on other projects, as well as travel.
I hope that things get ironed out and calm down a little next year so they can actually get back to the formula that worked so well in the past.
As critical as I have been, and as concerned as I am…
I have to remind myself that the future of Densi is isn’t just controlled by the shows management.

The recent events, both on and off the show make us concerned.
We tend to all scream…how can they do this to us?…dont the understand how important Deeks is to the show…

But I have resigned myself to believing this.
It isn’t the writers, or R.Scott G, or the directing, or the casting, or Paramount, or CBS……
If this is actually the end of Deeks and Densi as we know it..
It is Eric Olsen’s personal choice.
No one is pushing him out the door…it appears to be all his decision.
I respect him both as an actor and as a person, but this is all on him.
    Enjoy it while we can.
Be sad if and when it is over.
But if you want to get mad or upset because it is ending…
As hard as it might be to admit, you need to direct your disappointment and anger in the right direction. Toward ECO.
This time we need to blame the player, not the game.

There is nothing pointing at this being the show’s decision and everything pointing to ECO himself.
    Yes, it hurts…sorry.

Then again, maybe it is all for show and everybody will be back next year full time.
Eric has been known to be a troll at times to stir things up.
    Let’s hope so.
    thanks

    • Ed I agree that it will be all on Eric, but I will still blame the whole powers that be for wasting 7 years of missed opportunities. They could have married with kids and been happy for at least 6 years.

I don’t know how you turn down 24 more paychecks but I guess they can afford it. While listening to Matt & Eric I got the impression that most of Eric’s projects were morose and based in the middle east. So I don’t know if they are going to be big sellers.

I only kept watching the show when they hired ECO and saw the chemistry with Dani. if Densi is over I have no desire to continue watching. If they knew he was leaving they could have at least written some good Densi episodes for old time sakes. No DVD’s for me this year no matter what happens cause this was the worst year so far even including season 1. I guess I’ll watch live tonight just to get it over with and possibly remove a season pass from my DVR

      Like

      • I agree,
TPTB have done a poor job of handling things.
A poorly written Densi and a subpar Deeks this season is on them, no doubt.
But, if there is no Deeks next year at all…well that’s on him.
I also agree that at times ECO has some very odd tastes that will likely not have a broad commercial appeal, at least in this country.
It is hard to say if he will step away from the show completely or just take a big step back. I guess part of that will depend on how this year’s negotiations went.
Did he take a pay cut for working reduced time?
Or, did he get 24 episodes of pay for putting in 16 or 18 episodes worth of time and effort? That, and if he can get it accepted again.
If they are willing to pay him a premium fulltime paycheck and allow him to work part time…maybe he decides to stay.
He wouldn’t have had to commit to anything until after the show was renewed anyway, so maybe they didn’t know what his plan was.
Social media outrage may give him some leverage to get more money or better terms for a contract that he may decide to stick around for…
I mean after all…he has to pay for college, or so he said…

        It is an unpredictable business.
I think people assumed that after appearing in a movie with Tom Cruise, that Sarah would be more marketable and in demand than she appears to be.
Maybe there was some hope that she could provide a paycheck for a while.
now that it didn’t happen, maybe he stays.
        Who knows.
He likely has enough money to chase his dream for a while.
And if so, I wish him the best.
Whether it proves financially viable is another matter.
Let’s hope so. But if the public isn’t as passionate about his projects as he is, he may need to actually produce things the public is interested about. That or chase the independent film festivals around.
This isn’t an unusual thing, shows that do great at the awards shows like the Oscars quite often do not do great at the box office and vice versa.
        I respect the guy.
I hope he gets everything he wants in life.

          • Ron,
            I agree with you.
I have been glossing over it, but you are right.
the interview was an enlightening one.
            and somewhat disappointing.
The peak behind the curtain wasn’t all butterflies and rainbows.
it certainly isn’t the side of himself that everybody sees.
the mantra that “just do what you want and if they don’t like it screw em” isn’t a side of ECO that gets publicized or that people even know about..
            .
it always seems to help if the product you are producing happens to be one that the public wants to buy…
Just making what you want and ignoring the consumer is not really a recipe for success.
But, if you happen to be worth millions like he is, then you have a huge advantage over most other new small business owners.
it might not be the kind of advice that others without his financial security should follow.
To suggest for others to do do might not be very responsible.
to suggest not to listen to anyone else about your plan is a horrible business model to tell people who may actually look up to you.
overall, I did not love the interview, but it make you realize he is just human.
Not a hero, or someone to be idolized and put on a pedestal…but just a guy with his own ideas and agendas, faults and all…like everybody else.
just because he is famous doesn’t inherently make him any more right, wrong, good or bad than anybody else.
He can certainly be just as flawed as his character.
just no one wants to see it.
being a great actor doesn’t make him Mother Theresa.
I am astonished that the fans seem to give these celebrities mythical powers and idolize them.
He is just some guy that plays some guy on TV. no more, no less.
            was that critical enough?
            thanks

Mostly because not all of us have access our own agent, lawyer, publicist, business manager, or numerous other professionals for support.
So, when ECO says don’t listen to anyone that doesn’t like the idea…just he means you and me, not his team of experts.
                …just to clarify.

  15. As the season winds down and I think about my favorite episodes, I wonder if there will be a DR/ ECO commentary on this season’s DVD set.
So, I started a list in no particular order of my favorites Densi episodes this year, each from a different writer.

    Proving ground
I didn’t even think you liked me
    Swapping paint
    Ghost
    Minerva Precisions
    Law and order
    Truth candor and healing hearts.
    …To name just a few…

    Wait, I’m confused
    You people keep me sane

lets move the show to cable and get some new writers from this group…just sayin’
    kidding.
    Thanks,

Meant to comment that it looks like Kensi and Deeks were not in on the Mosley’s son story.

  19. Tess…you are the best. Wanted to thank you for all you’ve comtributed to wikiDeeks over the years. You brought the good stuff. Loved working with you on the summer hiatus stories, and reading your previews…although I have to admit I read them after the episode has aired. Guess I like surprises too much.

As for this finale, I am incredibly apprehensive that Deeks dies in that car explosion. Too many subtle, and not so subtle, hints by ECO. My heart hurts just thinking about it. Things won’t be the same if that becomes the truth.

    • No, Deeks won’t die. I think he will be in jeopardy of some sort for a couple episodes — temporarily blinded, amnesia, something (they can’t do coma, already done!) — that, along with what she saw him do to save her son, she will have a new appreciation for him and his value as a team member. Do I think Mosley should stick around? Hell no. Her actions against the team were appalling if not criminal in a work place.

  20. TV logic, rocket doesn’t blow up the whole car , option 1 of TV logic, 4 main cast member, either 4 of them taken hostage. If I were a writer an want an exellent cliffhanger to it , I would not reveal a dead cast member until premiere ends, well most likely they will survive . Either Deeks or Sam takes the hit on this. Hetty makes up a rescue team, recurring cast members come on to the choppers ! Option 1 : Kensi – Deeks relationship has been built up for so long, if that goes sunk one of them dead, there is a certain death, option 2: someone just gets replaced by injuries like done with Kensi in season 5 and 8. Deeks gets to take a cases in LAPD crossover a few episodes, limelight of becoming NCIS agent for reals and they get rid of Mosely for what shes done.

  21. Hey guys, I really love our discussions and sadly Wikideeks is shutting down eventually. I’d like to start a Facebook group just for weekly discussions. It won’t have the amazing previews and so forth. I need a Facebook name to complete the group creating process. Is there anyone interested? And could you email me your Facebook name so I can add you? My email is peakae@aol.com. I’m SO looking forward to Sunday!
