Marty Deeks: Undercover Operator | Take our poll!

It’s true. NCIS: Los Angeles’ Marty Deeks is a smooth (undercover) operator.

Since joining NCIS as a Liaison Officer, he has assumed quite a number of aliases, ranging from dark and brooding to silly and over the top… Or are they alter egos? Either way, we’ve put together a gallery of them to see if there is a collective favorite amongst Deeks fans.

So, peruse to your heart’s content, and then take our poll! Because we know it’s a difficult choice, you may choose up to 3! Be sure to leave a comment about the reasoning for your selections. We’d love to know which of Deeks’ undercover aliases you’d like to see more of and why!

What ever role he takes on, he nails it. He definitely makes the show totally enjoyable. Despite the serious nature of NCISLA, Marty Deeks always makes us smile! He is a lovable character. 👍❤️👏

  2. This one was incredibly tough. I had forgotten some of these aliases which made it even more difficult, but after drooling over them for a while, I chose Max Gentry…just too sexy to ignore. He’s dark and deep and so different from the Deeks we see on a weekly basis. I also chose Marty Coulter from Free Ride. It is one of my favorite episodes and he is so adorable in that shirt. He was charming and yet was working hard on the case, finding the murder weapon while the others made fun of him and his skills. My last choice was the sex addict in Recovery. That one scene with the girl on the bench is so sweet and touching and ECO was at his best. He showed us the inherent kindness of Deeks that shines through that alias at the end of the scene. Now that I have chosen just three, I will say I love him as the homeless guy and the funny guys he plays. I did miss the one where he pretended to be a soccer player in The Job. That was hilarious as was Dunkle, Sven and Danny Collins describing all the work Kensi was going to need in Anonymous. He is a master of disguise and keeps us laughing along the way or afraid for him as he goes up against dangerous criminals. Great poll and great choices.

    That was really tough ….
I choose the aliases witch are the most different from our beloved Mr. DEEKS …
Max Gentry his character id the most mysterious one of all witch fascinats my and my fantasy is going pn with me ……
I choose Sven because I was sooo cracking up in that scene and I couldend imagine he was even capable of doing this without laughing ….
    The third was Marty Coulter….
I totally agree with SWEET LU she said exactly what I wanted to say about Mr. COULTER

  4. I voted for Justin Waring simply because it’s an undercover role where he has to play the part of being in love with his wife, ie Kensi. A role that wasn’t acting for him 🙂

  5. Although I enjoyed Sven a bit too much, I think I am going to go with Max Gendry. He is a mystery and that alias intrigues me.

  6. Of course I had to go with Surfer Deeks, he’s my all-time favorite. That wetsuit, oh my. I also chose Max Gentry not because I like him but because he’s so fascinating, a glimpse of what Gordon John Brandel was like, a window into the person I think Deeks goes out of his way to avoid becoming. And finally I chose Matthew Dunkler because he made me laugh, and because I enjoyed how much fun he and Kensi had in that bathroom scene.

  7. I chose max Gentry, obviously. I adore bad boy Deeks a bit too much sometimes haha.

I also chose Matthew Dunkler, because he was just downright hilarious!! and he used that cover to pester Kensi.

My last choice was tough… I loved Deeks in Free Ride and also loved a good majority of his season 4 aliases, but season four was a rough one to watch for me because of the rest of the team’s behavior towards him. I spent most of season four worried he was going to mess up his undercover ops because no one else on the show believed he could do it either kwim? or maybe I read too much into the show.

I ended up choosing Justin Waring… and aside from ECO’s wonderful acting it was partially because he almost took his shorts off in that one scene and that was enough for me hahaha.

  8. How to choose from so many incredible options?! My top vote has to go to Justin Waring since he’s what we hope becomes reality for Deeks.

  9. You forgot the time he was the English agent of Kensi, the topless Brazilian model. That one was awesome. Jack Sparrow and Mary Poppins. 🙂 I think that was my fav. But they are all awesome. Sven was fantastic.

  14. Same here. I wish I could pick all of them.

But if I have to pick, it is going to Marty Finch. It holds the deepest meaning of all for me.

He is a combination of all what he is and what he was and what he is going to be. His past, present and future combined together in one concise role of Marty Finch and that too with the story that Dave Kalstein backstopped in 3×08 Bounty where Hetty narrates the same story to Deeks and Kensi of how Callen and Sam built trust between their partnership. She made up the story but then she is writer’s spokesperson. Dave Kalstein used it for Sam and Callen in 3×14 Partners and in 5×10-The Frozen Lake used it for Deeks about how he trusts his both partners in that episode, Thapa and Kensi.

He is a lawman, Cop-and part Agent Marty Deeks. He was a Public Attorney and had previously assumed Marty Finch as Undercover for LAPD with the same Armenian Mob. It speaks of his credibility with the experience and qualification he has from past to take up the present “risky” job of going in alone to rescue his partner “gone Lone Wolf” Thapa and also retrieve the Thumb Drive. And in undertaking the job, Marty Deeks charts out his future. His future with Kensi and his future as the Warrior that his name represents. Marty as in Martin is the Roman name for Mars means War-like. And its the undercover, where Marty Deeks uses the knife declaring his Martian qualities when needed. The use of the blade takes him closer to Kensi and the dangerous job of the Agents, bringing within him the shift away from being the Cop, as Cops usually do not deal with knives. And for me personally, in that role of Marty Finch, I saw the Marty Deeks that I wanted to see, as envisaged by the writers. Marty for Martian and Deeks for “Dirty and Geeky” Deeks. Well! Dirty as in shaggy looks and his tendency to ramble into gutter talk that everyone around him seems so wary about 🙂
