What CBS is telling us: After an Air Force captain Kensi dated a decade ago breaches a missile launch facility, she is transported to the location to help thwart the use of nuclear weapons, on NCIS: LOS ANGELES.
What we think is happening: Two things. One, Kensi’s exes are an interesting group of independent thinkers, aren’t they? Two, Frank Military does not write happy episodes.

Robert Curtis Brown as Air Force OSI Executive Director David Cole
Was Ivan Ronan in Switched at Birth, Dr. Josiah Rosenthal in Perception and Commander Pryce in The Handmaid’s Tale. Plays a lot of officials/bosses/man in charge roles.
As a working actor since the 1980’s, Brown has appeared in everything from Newhart to the original Will & Grace to Malcolm in the Middle to Mom and dramas from Matlock to Murder She Wrote to The X-Files (oddly, the same episode as Aaron Spears) to two of the CSI‘s (CSI and CSI: Miami) to the more recent Hawaii Five-0 and the TV version of Lethal Weapon.
Played two different characters in JAG, Lt. Robert Klein MD in season one’s “Hemlock” and a Commander in the field in “Coming Home” in season nine. Was Gary Tolin in season eight’s “Short Fuse” episode of NCIS.
Appeared in the soaps Search for Tomorrow, All My Children and General Hospital.
Amanda Clayton as Air Force Captain Anna Ross
Plays Alex Montgomery in If Loving You Is Wrong and appeared in episodes of The Mentalist, Massholes, Rizzoli & Isles, Victorious, The Soul Man, Constantine, Major Crimes and Rosewood. Was Eliza West, the daughter of a New Orleans murder victim whose killing was solved by Dwayne Pride in NCIS: New Orleans (things did not end well for Eliza).
Dustin Seavey as Air Force Captain Kevin Miller
This is Seavey’s second time appearing in an NCIS: Los Angeles episode but he is not returning as his previous character. He was Petty Officer Third Class Doug Foster in the “Vengeance’ episode in season three (also written by Frank Military) – he was the SEAL willing to confess to translator Powell’s murder if it meant the SEAL team could go on their rescue mission. Was also Seaman Marcus Leonard in NCIS‘s “A Man Walks into a Bar” and Petty Officer 2nd Class Corpsman Nolan Griffith in “No Man’s Land” in NCIS: New Orleans.
Played Teddy Lewis in Jericho and Deputy Roberts in Vegas. He appeared in episodes of House, CSI and Longmire.
Ellen Wroe as Tiffany Miller
Was Alexa Anderson in Animal Kingdom. Played a Petty Officer in season 11 finale of NCIS (“Honor Thy Father”) and was Lt. Lindsey Garrett in the “Touched by the Sun” episode of NCIS: New Orleans.
Was in episodes of Gary Unmarried, I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant, Huge, Cassandra French’s Finishing School for Boys, Southland, Weapon Wars, Masters of Sex, The Mentalist, Major Crimes, Baby Daddy, Chicago Med, Grey’s Anatomy, Grimm and Rosewood.

Joshua Elijah Reese as FBI Agent #1
Played Derzius in The Kill Point. Guest roles include Three Rivers, Person of Interest, Low Winter Sun, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Dr. Ken and was “Suited Man” in the “Rogue” episode (season 14’s premiere) of NCIS.

Wow another great preview, Thanks Tess! I’ve felt something is off this whole season, but I just couldn’t put it all together.
This summer I tried to follow the actors comments for the past season and listen for tidbits for this year. I was somewhat surprised that instead of a coma R. Scott wanted to chop off one of Kensi’s limbs like he did in ER and show how difficult it would be to rehab like they did in JAG. I would think that it would be hard to write and real hard for the actor to act. It might have easier to write a Densi baby. Its confusing to me.
Then I get my DVD set and find out that there is no commentary by DR. & ECO.
Now they want me to suspend disbelief to accept that a trained killer (sniper) is going to try to negotiate with someone she dated ten years ago? Then have a dramatic good bye scene with her fiancé and for me not to think, that the couple who have been together for 3 years would have talked about if the end was near and they weren’t together at the scene they would find some way to say I love you and good bye and not be upset and pissed with each other. And in the final scene instead of a tackle hug and kiss, they have Deeks not even look at her? I’m supposed to believe that ending? I call B.S.
It just seems that the writers are looking for ways to break them up and its’s just silly. I think that I’m finished with this nonsense. Time to watch football I guess.

I remember on the DVD extras that RSG wanted to do a long-running injury storyline since season five but hadn’t figured it out. Deeks gets shot, back in the next episode. Sam gets shot, back in the next episode. Kensi’s injury worked with the need to camouflage DR’s pregnancy with a longtime spent in a coma/hospital bed (a longtime soap opera trick), in a wheelchair or a rehab harness wearing sweats. It also gave her the ability to go back into the field when she recovered. Bud was ultimately a JAG lawyer and not a field agent. Her injury had to be severe but with a possible rehab. I think they did a really good job with it, truth be told (but I think season eight outside of the decision to kill Michelle was quite good).
I didn’t know what episode they’d use for the DVD commentary. The first two episodes were team episodes, the Kensi recovery was sometimes two or three scenes in an episode where Callen was being fed to sharks or Sam was working as a bodyguard. The three mole episodes were again team episodes. After that, the only heavy “Kensi & Deeks” episodes was “From Havana with Love” and that was terrible. I don’t think there was an episode for them to do a commentary track in season eight. Based on what we’ve seen, tomorrow’s episode is an early frontrunner for season nine commentary.
As the clip said, Kensi is there because she’s the physically closest to the scene. I don’t think this is about the end of the engagment but more about Deeks’s continuing concerns – and this started in the “The Seventh Child” and continued in “High Value Target” and in “Assets” this year – that the two of them risk their lives every day and if they’re going to have a future with a family, what does that to do their careers or what could it do to their family. I think we’re in for some angst but not for a break-up. The 200th episode is next week – all needs to be calm and comfortable for that hour.

Great job, Tess. Looking forward to this one. Don’t mind a little Densi angst, as I am confident TPTB are not going to break them up. But seriously how many times is Deeks going to have to seriously contemplate/face/worry about Kensi dying? This makes three times in just over a year.

I’m with you, Psyched – I’m fine with some angst. I remember an interview years ago with Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton about Coach and Mrs. Coach on “Friday Night Lights”. She said that they were told on day one that there were be problems, fights, etc., but they were always going to be a couple. Hard times would make the good times better.
Kensi’s safety and the problem their careers would have on a family has been a running theme for Deeks since “The Seventh Child”. He’s seen Kensi with her throat cut, he’s seen her beaten, badly injured and in a coma, kidnapped – he wants her safe. This just continues that theme.

I’m afraid this week’s episode may not be easy to watch. I know we are sure Kensi will survive, we have evidence (press release and photos of the next episodes) and Daniela herself reassured us in her latest interview, but watching her character face a life-threatening situation, a real suicide mission, will be hard. I honestly have not recovered from the shock of Michelle’s death yet (probably never will) even if we had a long summer hiatus and a month and a half of the new season.
As for Deeks’ reaction, I can understand he may be worried, scared, mad and desperate to know Kensi in such danger, but I’m starting to feel uncomfortable when he throws and flips everything he has on his way when he is worried for her like in this episode (from what we have seen) and in Payback when Kensi had been abducted by Sullivan. I think Deeks will have to deal with these rage issues better sooner than later.
I don’t think this episode will be the end of Densi, but it will probably be a turning point in their relationship and it will make them talk and reflect about their jobs and a future family. Kensi gives proof (at least from what we were shown) she will choose the mission over a fiancé/husband who begs her to get out of there.

Oh Cladani, when have Frank Military episodes ever been easy to watch?
Deeks’s issues when women are in danger are a part of his character. As for Kensi, I think she’d argue that she’s protecting the world for their children. Of course, Sam and Michelle thought the same thing. Really looking forward to tomorrow.
