Deeks’ Surf Log – 05/16/14

Rub a-dub dub, the guys escaped a sinking sub?! Yet again I’m floored by the situations we find ourselves in – & the bizarre creativity of some criminals. While we put another “W” in the win column, the trouble for Hetty seems real. I’d ponder what secrets she’s keeping, but I know better. It just feels wrong to be suspicious of the woman who has (mostly) looked out for me in a way no one else has in a very long time.
On the topic of things that are “off”, how the heck did my “partners” go from being look-a-like near mortal enemies to whispering besties hugging it out?! Man, these women are so confusing; I think I need another “Depth Charge”! At least I was lucky enough to avoid their obvious scuffle. (Actually, with these two, it’s a miracle at least one of them isn’t in the hospital.)
The best part of the whole ordeal was our brief cover at the restaurant. I remember not too long ago an unyielding Kensi demanding our brother/sister role in Romania. My how times have changed. Now she presents us as engaged? Just the thought of her as a bride…. I couldn’t contain my honest reaction. So why did she offer up the firm “partner” tag at the end of the day? She remains a mystery – & one I’m happy to continue solving.

Yay the log is back!!! Oh I missed this.
I have to admit though, the whole “partner” thing in the end wasn’t a mystery for me. Deeks made it clear last season that he is not ready to take their relationship to the next level so what else could Kensi have said? It thought it made absolute sense, especially with the “friends” tag that followed.

Do you think Kensi uttered “partners” because the team was around, because that’s what she thinks Deeks was ok in hearing, because that’s where she is/has accepted, or something else?

the term partner means many different things according to how its used. two, lawyers working together as partners means a law firm , Two cops make a partnership for a shift . Callen and sam it means brothers. Spouses refer to each other as partners in life. In this case I think partners meant working partners in season 2. In season 3 partners meant friendship. In season 4 partners meant favorite person in the world. Season 5 and 6 partners to them means soul mate. The term is so vague , its only true meaning is to the two people who are partners. See I thought THREE HEARTS was quite clear at the end. Its not if they will be soul mates but when they will be. I think they both know who they will end up with , the question is when will it be.

DrGayle, I think she said “partners” because of exactly those first two reasons. Not only was the team there, but the last we saw them talk, Deeks was giving her knife back and I think she isn’t quite sure what they are right now. I think she is (or was) ready to be more but she isn’t sure where Deeks stands anymore and partners is a safe and true term for them. There was a minuscule moment of hesitation (I could have been imagining it though, or wishful thinking!) before she said that but I wasn’t surprised that’s what she came out with.

I admit I wasn’t surprised either – & I’ll bet we all project things with these two. True, perhaps she isn’t sure where Deeks stands. On that note, perhaps she’s equally hesitant about how to navigate with/around that since this seems to be an “atypical Deeks”. So in this awkward standoff, I’d typically ask who you think will break first and in what manner, but it seems ECO’s TV Guide Interview from today has answered that! 🙂

And I feel like we totally missed something (deleted scene maybe?) between Kensi and Talia. I like that they ended up friendly but how did they get there, and so quickly?!

Kara – Oh we definitely missed something between the ladies. Sadly, a curse of time limits. However, there are hints of Talia’s possible return later in the season, so maybe we’ll get more insight then.

I’m hoping that’s the case – either in Talia’s future return or even in a scene between Deeks and Kensi in the next week or two where he asks what went down.

I agree with Kara. At this point Deeks only wants to be partners with Kensi (for whatever reason), so this was her way of proving to him that she has accepted this term.

Interesting. Do you think this is an example of them simply doing what they think the other wants/needs? That they are both acting as martyrs to prioritize the other person?

It took me two days to realize the last scene even happened the way we are talking about it here. I kept wondering if I maybe I missed something like Kensi questioning their thing the entire episode and deciding last minute that they would only be partners. Was she trying to figure it out the entire time and I just didn’t notice?
I was not a fan of anything in this episode. Even the things I did like were preceded with negatives that distracted from the positive.
Mean Kensi is not someone I want to be a fan of and she was indeed mean to Deeks for no reason in this episode.
Talia deciding to forget that Kensi head butted her in the head near minutes after it happened was unrealistic and honestly quite annoying. Then they joined in on belittling Deeks and for some this was entertainment. For me it was anything but.
Maybe I am over thinking it all. Its just a TV show but the entire episode rubbed me the wrong way and for some reason I just can’t get over it.

You pose great questions. Don’t you wish the show had more time for such things? I hold out hope this week was a transition for a more solid Season 6. What do you think?
It does feel like they are building the issue of Kensi’s violence/loss of control. If so, it should be incredibly intriguing to see how that plays out and the result for both her and Densi overall. Let’s hope for some interesting insights as result of the upcoming sparring match!

Well, I think, Deeks, with his…how to say….sometimes totally naive thinking,….he solve nothing.
He just catch wave, and he go somewhere.
But where he go?
Looks like he really don’t know, he don’t manage it, he don’t think about it.
He just stay on wave, and go….somewhere.
He looks like brainless….sorry for that.
I know, we have to wait, for more episodes.
Start was promising, so maybe is there, in future some nice story.

Thank you on the comment about the Log, although I’m not sure I followed all of your comments due to language issues.
Regarding the look of the Log, it was actually quite a challenge by more than one member of the wikiDeeks team to format the Log in the notebook style look, as well as produce it in a timely manner. Thus, we’ve (at least for now) moved to an electronic format, something “Deeks” may address in the next log. Thank you for appreciating the previous artistic endeavor.

I think Kensi said “partners” and looked at Deeks because they are “just partners” for Deeks´ decision (in Three Hearts).
And talking about Kensi´s violence/loss of control , I want to see HOW she goes from “hit” to “talk/cry/laugh”. I´m a patient woman, I can wait the entire season, I need a mature Kensi because I love her and I want to see her happy.

It’s good that Deeks is still intrigued by Kensi and willing to be patient with her.
As you mention, Gayle, they are certainly escalating Kensi’s violence/loss of control issues. I hope they have time to address this in the show and that Deeks will stand by her as she works through this.
