WikiDeeks Roundtable: Season 14

The wikiDeeks staff got together this weekend to wrap up the final season of NCIS: Los Angeles and talk about the finale and our love for our favorite character Marty Deeks. We reminisced about our favorite Deeks episodes and what made this character so special. It was fun to look back over 14 wonderful years and get to share our thoughts and feelings with our fans. We hope you enjoy this podcast and that you will comment below about your thoughts and any memories you would like to share.

I’m so glad you decided to have a final round table. It was fun to be able to put voices to names and hear everyone’s takes on our favorite character. When you were talking about Eric’s ad libs and never really being sure if it was Eric or the script it reminded me of something I read in one of Dani’s interviews. In the episode that ended with Deeks giving Kensi flowers and having a heart to heart talk she said that the line about that moment feeling like ten years ago was a total ad lib on his part. She said she burst into tears when he said it and they just kept the camera going until she recovered and was able to continue with the scene. She said he was right – it did feel like ten years ago and it made her a little sad.

Another interesting fact that I read in one of Gemmell’s interviews was that in the season they had to close down early because of the pandemic they actually had an episode that killed off Anna but they never got to do it so they ended up letting her live. That would have certainly changed the finale.

I also wanted to say that like Gayle I also found the last scene disappointing not including the whole team. I guess that was the consequence of giving us a pregnant Kensi, but it just didn’t sit right with me. I guess that proves you can’t have everything 🙂

I’d like to thank everyone connected with Wikideeks for all the time you’ve spent giving us fans things to think about, things to laugh about, and the chance to blow off steam for the things that irritated us. I appreciate all the work that was put into this site by a group of very smart people. I’m so glad it’s not going away.

  4. Over here nobody I know watches NCIS:LA, in fact very few have heard of it, perhaps I need to meet more people. So it was such a treat to hear real voices talking about my favourite show and my favourite character. People who love the show and whose thoughts are much like mine. I will need to listen again to take it all in.

In the past there was much discussion about a Densi pregnancy and I was one of many who reckoned the series finale was the right time for it to happen. It never crossed my mind that it would actually happen. One small disappointment for me was Deeks never getting closure with his father. I got the feeling they were working towards it. Kilbride reconciled with his son.

I will enjoy listening again, in fact I think I need to go back and listen to other roundtable discussions. I will be re-watching the show so why not?
    Thank you so much.

  5. I found it fascinating to listen to the discussion – despite the occasional dead air. Unless everyone is in the room, able to read those little nuances of body language to know when to add their views, pauses in conversation was inevitable. I’m sorry that we didn’t get to see what each of the roundtable team looks like. Perhaps, someone is talented enough to do a cartoon drawing. I remember seeing a drawing of NCIS (Gibbs et al) as Simpson-like characters. Excellent. The editorial staff represented in satirical form?
Unlike fellow Brit Patricia Abbott (yes, I remember her comment to my one of my previous missives), I have a couple of people with whom to discuss NCISLA. THE fan, my wife, she pointed me toward the show; and a guy I’ve known, literary, from when we were babes in arms, as we grew up together as neighbours on the same street.
I’m sorry, Pat, it must be frustrating to want to discuss our favourite character and the show, only to find no likeminded people. I’m not on social media, but there is a Twitter feed at the bottom of the WikiDeeks site pages, and therefore might be a fan forum out there. Perhaps a fan forum might be something WikiDeeks might consider for the future?
Similarly to Pat, I’m going to again listen to Roundtable 14, and its earlier incantations. I also know the voices to the nom de plume of my favourite authors. I’m going to reread my favourite bookmarked fanfics, this time (weirdly?) trying to imagine the authors reading the narration to me.

    • Hi Terrence. I think you can understand why I am so pleased wikiDeeks is going to carry on. I know likeminded people are out there.

Did the series finale air on Sky last night? I’ll be waiting for the DVDs. I do remember watching NCIS:LA on 5USA, those were the days.

  6. Hi, Patricia,
There’s one more to go on Sky. This Sunday. I’ve Sky+ last week and will this week. I can watch the two together. the way they should’ve been broadcast.
I’ve done a little digging with a trowel rather than a spade. The Region 1 might be available now. Region 2? We have to wait – again. Keep your eyes open, Fanpal.
