Reminding Deeks: Kensi’s Journal 1/3/2021
1/3/21
I can’t wait for Deeks to get home so he can tell me about how his DCSA interview with Agent Martinez went. I wish I could have seen the look on his face if Martinez took my suggestion and asked him about presidents’ causes of death. (LOL—I’m cracking up just thinking about it…and he thinks my sense of humor needs work!) I’m sure he appreciated it though, because he really needed to relax. I’m not sure if I should be surprised at how nervous Deeks has been about this, but I’m glad it’ll all be over and he’ll be accepted into FLETC soon.
Deeks didn’t want to hear how my interview with Agent Martinez went yesterday because he was afraid it would jinx things, but as soon as he gets home tonight I’m going to sit him down and tell him all about it. I’m pretty sure she came in ready to dismiss most of what I would say about Deeks as an agent and my partner because I’m also his wife. I was prepared for that and made sure to recount the beginning of Deeks’ time with us, back when I was doubtful our partnership would last. I told her about how for an operator who’d spent most of his time on his own, Deeks was able to take direction easily but still made sure his (sometimes unpopular) opinions were heard when necessary. How a cop who hadn’t had the same training not only managed to keep up with our elite team, but kept us (mostly me) safe. How he came in to work every day with a smile on his face and did the job well even when he was more often than not the butt of our jokes. How the first that thing that impressed me about Deeks when I was able to look past the jokes was that I could count on him to have my back. How his ability to get people to underestimate him was (and still is) the secret to his success both undercover an in the interrogation room, and how a team of highly-skilled agents fell for it hook, line, and sinker.
I think Agent Martinez was a little taken aback by my candor about those early days with Deeks, as I doubt she was expecting such a bumpy start for him on the team. I think it really emphasizes how determined Deeks can be when he has a goal in mind, and I’m confident she understood that by the end of our interview. It’s something I think Deeks needs to be reminded of too, sadly, and I’m glad to do it.
Loved this. I loved getting to hear about the contents of Kensi’s interview. A great use of the Journal, to fill in this missing scene. And good job, Kensi, with naming so many of Deeks finer attributes. She – and you – do know him well. 🙂
I’m also glad to see that she intends to try to build up his rapidly plummeting self-esteem. He needs her help!
