Drabble of the Week: Art of Compromise

“You know,” Deeks paused, pursing his lips and pulling one leg up on the couch between them, lights still shimmering around OPS despite the late hour and near vacancy of the building. “I wasn’t aware we’d started planning the wedding yet.”

“What did you think your mom’s constant calls were then?” She pressed the side of her face to the back of the couch, almost warm and content enough to fall asleep right there.

“Well… yes, those are anything but subtle,” he cringed slightly. “But she’s also planning family trips around my future pregnancy.”

“We’ve kinda started that too, Deeks.”

“Future parents of future pregnancy get that right.”

Nodding, she leaned back against an armrest, propping one knee up to run a fingernail over the denim encasing it. “What else did your article say?”

“Don’t go to bed angry, learn to cook, you’re adorable when you’re sleepy and I wish Nell put up some mistletoe so I had an excuse to kiss you right here.”

“That last one is oddly specific.”

“Mmhmm,” reaching out to tap a few fingers over the exposed skin between her jeans and sock, he nodded lightly. “What’s the budget for our anniversary?”

“I think we can be a little more lenient with that,” she passed him an exhausted smile. “Three years only happens once.”

“Four is gonna be the year though, huh?” He smirked, lightly squeezing her ankle for a half second. “Wedding, honeymoon, baby.”

Ignoring how her mouth quickly opened, ready to press out a few words, he met her eyes, lifting one eyebrow. “But I still like Three, about to get better too.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, because I’m kissing you as soon as we’re off government property.”
