NCISLA Classified Preview: “Liabilities” (S9E15)

Title:   “Liabilities”
Airing: March 18th
Filming:  December 4th and then again December 7th to 15th.
What CBS is telling us:   Callen and Sam pull Granger’s daughter, former spy Jennifer Kim (Malese Jow), from witness protection to help the team locate an underground spy who has obtained an arsenal of bomb materials, on NCIS: LOS ANGELES.
What we think is happening:  Jennifer Kim returns.  I hope she has some information about Granger.  Also, the title of the episode works well with an episode title from earlier in season nine.

Be on the lookout: GUEST CAST:

Malese Jow as Jennifer Kim
Last seen on the pier with Granger in “Granger, O.”.

Jun Hee Lee as Eric Park
Played Dennis Fung in season one of American Crime Story.  Appeared in episodes of Girlboss, The Mindy Project, House and Josh & Drake.

Matthew Atkinson as Keith Stiger
Most interesting.  The husband of the dead Navy Lieutenant’s best friend returns.  He was last seen in “Assets” bleeding in his fancy mansion’s bedroom.  Never bought that Lt. Elder was the villain in her episode.

La Monde Byrd as Patrick Griffin
Played Jack in Matumbo Goldberg and Hollis in Mad Men.

Appeared on the mothership as Capt. Rand Kraus USMC in the “Privileged Information” episode.  Had guest rules in episodes of For the People, Boston Public, The Shield, Strong Medicine, Cuts, Minds of Mencia, Supernatural, Monk, CSI, Cold Case, Nashville, Greenleaf, Aquarius, Bones and Grey’s Anatomy.

Erin Pineda as Barbara Silva
Had guest roles in episodes of NTSF: SD: SUV, Happy Endings, Comedy Bang! Bang!, Major Crimes, American Housewife and Criminal Minds.

Matthew Downs as Rocky
Appeared in episodes of In Plain Sight, Dallas (2012), Grey’s Anatomy, Sam & Cat, How to Get Away with Murder, Bones, Last Man Standing, Bosch and The Middle.

Duncan Campbell as NCIS Agent Castor
Agent Castor was also last seen in “Assets”.

Masterminds:

Written by:  Kyle Harimoto wrote “Omni”, “Merry Evasion”, “Chernoff, K” and “Command and Control”, “Granger, O.”, “Ghost Gun”, “Kulinda”, “767”, “Se Murio El Payaso” and “Assets” while was a co-writer on “Three Hearts”, “Leipei”, “Humbug”, both ends of the “Matryoshka” two-parter.   This episode title works well with “Assets” and the return of Keith Steiger.

Directed by:  Lily Mariye who is an actress turned director.  She has directed episodes of The Fosters, Chicago PD and Nashville.  Her acting credits go back to a 1982 episode of Lou Grant and include playing Nurse Lily Jarvik on ER.  She appeared in episode of NCIS: Los Angeles as Ashley Hong in “Purity” in season four.  She was the woman with the legal cyanide for jewelry cleaning.

Insider Intel:  None today.

Possible Sports Related Delays:  CBS is back in the Sunday delays business for three of the next four weeks.  The network has the NCAA Men’s basketball tournament this Sunday and next so delays are possible.  April 1st will have a clean start time but the final round of Masters Tournament on April 8th probably means another delay.  I will update the start time if there is a delay in the comments section Sunday night.  Other places to find the start time include the show’s official Twitter account (@NCISLA) and CBS’s official twitter account (@CBSTweet).

  1. Thanks for your preview. I admit I didn’t remember almost any of the photographs they had shared while filming, maybe I hadn’t even seen most of them, but it was nice to have everything collected together before the episode.

I don’t know what to expect from “Liabilities”.
A very generic promo followed by two very typical NCIS:LA scenes: a boom and tactical!team (luckily all together!).
To be honest, the thing I’m looking forward to the most is Hetty back to work: how will she react? what will her interactions with Mosley be? will she show any signs of PTSD (the scene in which she was tortured in the last episode was not easy to watch…).

I’m really looking forward to seeing Granger’s daughter again, too, let’s hope we’ll get to know more about her father’s whereabouts, I’m curious to see if the authors have decided to still surround Granger’s leave with an aura of mystery or if in this episode they could be more specific to what happened to him this past year.

    • Thank you!

I’m hoping this takes care of a few dangling storylines. Jennifer Kim was obviously pushed to the backburner last season as poor Miguel Ferrer fought cancer with all he had. I’m hoping for some resolution there. And some peace for Granger. After seeing Hetty and the Grumpy Old Men trio with Jeff Kober last week – they could all use a good ending to their stories.

I’m also hoping for an answer about Lt. Elder in “Assets”. They made a big deal that the stolen plans were in the cloud in an account opened in her name. Not her account, an account opened in her name. They also had Mosley and Callen discussing following up on the case. The Lieutenant’s friends lived in a pretty ritzy home – I was always a bit suspicious of them.

      Thanks again!

Thanks for once again, keeping track of all those photographs, twitters, etc. I remember all the pictures but had no idea what episode they were associated with. I really appreciate your doing this for all of us.

It looks like a great episode, I am hoping Linda Hunt is back for good, she has been sorely missed. I also hope they have been listening to their fans and getting back to basics with the core team.

I’m very interested to see how this all works out. Mosley really put her career on the line to save Hetty. Hetty is, as Mosley noted, a legend. Hetty had history with Granger but seemingly no history with the new person in charge. Hopefully the program will make their relationship where Hetty was with Granger near the end and not the early Hetty-Granger interactions.

      Thanks again!
