Deeks’ love for animals and children…Tell us your favorite scene!

There’s an old saying in show business: “Never work with children or animals.”  Grown actors are likely to see themselves completely upstaged in the face of such cuteness, yet somehow Marty Deeks/Eric Christian Olsen manages to hold his own.  What’s your favorite scene where Deeks shares the stage with a sweet little child or a furry friend?  Vote and leave a comment to tell us why your pick is the best.

  1. Anything with Monty is likely to be at the top of the list. Seeing a person with their pet it very telling. People tend to be their genuine selves around pets due to their unconditional acceptance, something Deeks needs in his turbulent life.

  2. As much as I love to see his easy interaction with children, I have to say Deeks’ relationship with dogs, especially Monty, has to take top billing. I love the way he talks to Monty and the fact that he has figured out Monty likes NPR…well how can you not get all warm and fuzzy over that? The best scene though, is Deeks using Monty and an out of control German Shepherd in Dragon and the Fairy that gave me the most laughs…out loud…all by myself. Great hilarious dialog and he had the dogs doing exactly what he wanted…now let’s go look for poodles!

  3. I just love Deeks and Monty; they are family for each other, take care of each other, and both love Kensi. Thus, any scene where they’re together or Deeks talks about Monty is a winner for me. Still, I chose the scene with Shawn and Deeks playing tennis because not only does this scene say so much about Deeks as a man, but it serves to emphasize for Kensi the kind of man she is probably already falling in love with at that point in their “love story.” In addition to being a terrific partner for her, he is insightful, empathetic, kind, and funny!

  4. I have a few favorites. I agree with Sweet Lu that the scene with the German Shepherd was ECO at his most hilarious. I am also partial to the trampoline scene, mostly for the way we see how Deeks is growing on Kensi.

But my favorite is Monty saving the day in Imposters. One of the reasons I love Monty is that I think he shares so many of his daddy’s traits that he actually serves as a stand-in for Deeks. Sam and the others mock Monty’s appearance and they badly misjudge his abilities. Sam in particular doesn’t trust Monty. He sees him as a mutt of questionable pedigree/background, not to be taken seriously, and kind of annoying, like when Monty angles for some of Sam’s food in Deadline. But just like Deeks, Monty doesn’t let Sam intimidate him. Hetty makes Monty an honorary member of the team, just as she wants to do with Deeks. And for goodness sakes, Deeks and Monty even both suffer from PTSD! So when Monty saves everyone in Imposters, I think it symbolizes even more, implying that his daddy is just as smart and capable in his human role. Go Monty!
