Deeks’ Surf Log – 04/20/15

April 20, 2015

I have to start with recording a memory I don’t want to forget. Fern and I were investigating a scene (like usual); I was masterfully “detecting” (like usual), but then the other side of my partner appeared. The softer lady side. Apparently my focused professionalism got Princess all hot & bothered? (Good to know. Good. To. Know.) Now I realize what was swirling in that pretty head of hers in the early days of our working together. See, I knew she couldn’t resist my charms! (But man, was my patience tested.)

I adore how deep my woman is. While my cheeky sense of humor might have only served as “bait”, a woman like Kensi requires so much more to allow herself to get hooked and reeled in. Some days I still can’t believe this is reality. I can’t wait to keep discovering the complex layers hidden within my Ladybird Blye.

Anyway, as inappropriate as our interaction was (albeit not too far beyond the typical “us”), I won’t deny how much I enjoyed it, having Kensi initiate and openly demonstrate her feelings for me. (See, we’re practicing our communication skills!) But then “Motormouth Marty” came in like a wrecking ball. (Did I just quote a Miley Cyrus song?! Do not tell Kensi about this!) Severed pinky? What the, what was I thinking? And therein lies a problem: the woman short-circuits my brain. It’s a testament to her power over me that she can so effortlessly and immediately (yet knowingly) turn a trained lawyer into a babbling baboon. Yet I’m not worried. Sometimes fixing issues like this can be even more fun than if I hadn’t messed up in the first place. Oh, well played Self!

But then I was reminded of the black cloud (a.k.a. the IA investigation) hovering over my/our every move. I know it’s risky for us to remain partnered in the field, but a sudden separation would look even more suspicious. And I knew eventually Kensi would ask me directly about the situation. (She’s not nearly as patient as I am, like I was about her dad and Jack. But then I’m the one who inquired about Detective Rivera, so clearly I’m not keeping this as concealed as I intended.) I’m stuck. I won’t lie to Kensi, but I can’t tell her either. How are you going to get yourself out of this one Deeks?

  1. I’m glad you got the comments back!!

I love this entry, Gayle. His perspective of what happened at Arkady’s house is so funny and you can really sense his inner turmoil about the IA investigation.

  2. It was a wonderful episode, wasn’t it? And we can certainly tell things are building toward the finale! (Thanks for the kind words. As Karen P.’s series on the FF writers can attest, I think the best compliment anyone can get in this realm is an on-point “voice” of the character. By now we know him so well!)

    • One of my favorites this season (maybe even of the series – that list is getting pretty long!) and I agree with you – it’s a great compliment to hear that people think you’ve kept them true to their characters in your writing (and you certainly do!).

I’m so anxious for Monday night and then the last two eps in May. I can’t believe the season is practically over!
