Drabble of the Week: Flight Risk

“Still conflicted?” Deeks mumbled, glancing over his shoulder to Callen and Sam pacing beside the gate, moments before boarding, quiet words directed to his partner beside him, the woman flipping through a tabloid without actually reading it.

“Yeah… I guess… I-” pausing and shaking her head, curls tossing over her shoulders, she pursed her lips. “I don’t really know anymore.”

“Me either, get a call halfway through breakfast because Eric had an avocado dream – which may have ruined guacamole for me – about a book and now we’re getting on a plane to fly halfway around the world for a woman who may or may not need rescuing.”

A light laugh escaping her, Kensi shoved the magazine back in her go bag, turning on her heel to face him. “You think it’s a mistake?”

“No, I just…”

“Conflicted,” she murmured, lips twisting slightly, expression a mixture of sympathy and confusion as she touched her fingertips to his elbow for a half second.

“For the record, I’m a big fan of saving Hetty, leave no man behind, the whole shebang, I’m just also a huge fan of post it notes on the fridge. ‘Hey if I’m not back by the new year I was possibly abducted in Vietnam.’”

“Well I’ll remember that, for the future,” she quirked an eyebrow, fending off a sarcastic smile.

“No, see in the future, I’ll be accompanying you on any rogue missions.”

“I like that future,” she said, tossing him a small smile before turning completely, moving towards the now open gate.

“Me too.”
