Poll: Densi Undercover! Which one’s your fav?
Undercover work is a big part of the job at NCIS. Sometimes Kensi goes undercover, sometimes it’s Deeks. But when they’re undercover together, the Densi magic can really fly as they play off of one another to sell their cover. What’s your favorite of their many covert missions? Tell us why in the Comments, or let us know if we missed an assignment that you enjoyed.

Neighborhood Watch, besides being one of best and most hilarious Densi undercover ops, was probably one of the most pivotal in the Densi relationship. The kiss on the cheek, the pat on the butt, and Kensi’s comment about the whole married couple thing being “comforting” said a lot. And remember they were sharing a bed in this episode, and they even talked about which side they slept on, Kensi snoring, etc.
When Kensi cut her foot and Deeks came to the rescue, he only cared about her safety. Then when Deeks found that she was okay, their little exchange said a lot about their underlying feelings for each other.
Fast-forwarding to the dinner date with Brett and Paulina, a lot happened there. The cliché story about Kensi and Deeks meeting at the MMA gym and the details each of them remembered about it not only surprised both of them, but confirmed their mutual attraction for each other right from the beginning. And Kensi does say, “I knew it was meant to be the moment I saw him.”
The “cover kiss” in the dining room was so passionate that Deeks was notably surprised, but very pleased. And Deeks’ comment afterward was probably more loaded that what we realize. When Brett and Paulina walked in on them, Deeks said, “Yeah, my Aunt Hetty warned me about her.”
We might first be tempted to dismiss Deeks’ comment as just an off-handed remark; that is until we look at the warning exactly as Hetty said. When Kensi and Deeks were sitting across from her, she said: “When two agents are forced to live together undercover, as man and wife, it’s only natural that the situation could bring about unfamiliar feelings and emotions….I’m simply saying that such an intimate assignment can impact the judgment of even the most professional agents. You are up against a highly-trained Russian sleeper agent who will protect his own identity at any cost. You need to be at the top of your game.” Deeks was experiencing those “feelings and emotions,” and Kensi was too. Deeks acknowledges his feelings by reminding them that they still needed to be at the top of their game, despite their mutual attraction.
The sex dungeon was the icing on the cake; I don’t think anybody saw that coming. Kensi is obviously showing a bit of jealousy when she says, “Actually what I want to know is how you were two seconds away from being Paulina’s whipping boy.” I would like to have seen what went on in the dungeon before they were talking on the front porch. (I’d still like to hear the rest of the story about Kensi and Monica on spring break!) I kind of chuckled wondering what would have happened if Kensi and Deeks would have just looked at each other for a second, and then said “what the heck” as they pulled off their clothes and joined them. But, just like Hetty warned, they were professional agents, and their judgment couldn’t be impacted by any of this.
Generally speaking, their undercover ops are great; but in my opinion “Neighborhood Watch” is the most pivotal as far as their relationship is concerned. I also think the hotel scene in “Raven and the Swans” was pivotal, but it comes a good while after the “Neighborhood Watch” assignment. However, it did serve to confirm their on-going relationship and gave them an opportunity to interact on a more intimate level.

I voted for Neighborhood Watch, but Live Long Day would have been my second favorite. I like to rewatch both over and over.

I voted for Neighborhood Watch as the top undercover op mainly for the reason that this was the longest undercover op that the two have done on the show. To my knowledge this is Kensi’s first op that lasted longer than one day. Deeks, on the other hand, is very experienced with deep undercover ops. Max Gentry and Dale John Sully are two examples of ops he did that lasted many months. Also, like Hetty warned them, having to live together while maintaining a cover of husband and wife can be difficult. And they both pulled it off! I think Deeks is the best on the show at undercover (Callen is a close second) so I love all scenes where he is playing someone else. But this episode is entirely undercover and I really love seeing Kensi performing as the doting wife as much as Deeks performing as the loving husband. I hope the writers decide to give us a few more of these types of episodes where the entire episode is based on a deep undercover op.

I think you are all right about the reasons to love Neighborhood Watch. I too would very much enjoy seeing some lengthier undercover jobs like that one. But I have to admit that I have a soft spot in my heart for The Livelong Day. Every time I watch the scene where she throws the apple at Deeks’ head, I laugh out loud, and that bathroom scene is hilarious. It makes me wonder how much was improv. They were having so much fun together, I think really for the first time since his torture, and it was lovely to see.

I also love that undercover op anonkp! Seeing Deeks with glasses and combed straight hair was awesome! Also that weird eccentric character was very well played! And yes, the bathroom scene was hilarious… I also believe that a lot of their scenes contain actions and dialogue not found in the script. Can’t wait to see what other alias covers we will be introduced to in the upcoming season! I can only hope that my all time favorite scenario might come to pass soon and we see the pair play a homeless couple living on the street. Deeks seems to have played this roll in LAPD ops before and twice since being with NICS while Kensi would have to relive what it was like when she was 15 and living on the streets. Come on writers…. Please? Pretty Please? Beers and steaks on the grill at my house if you do?

I just realized that Deeks has played the homeless man alias three times while with NCIS and not twice like I originally said. If I remember correctly, Borderline (S2 E3), The Watchers (S3 E12), and Parley (S4 E23). Can anyone else think of another time that I missed?
