NCISLA Preview: “Chernoff, K.” (S6E24)

“Chernoff, K.”

Airing: May 18th – the season six finale

Filming: April 20th to 29th.

What CBS is telling us: “Chernoff, K.” – The case involving Arkady and his personal connection to an oil tanker now leads Callen, Sam, Deeks and Kensi to Moscow, where the team must assume multiple undercover identities to locate their suspects. Meanwhile, Callen uncovers new information regarding his father, on the sixth season finale of NCIS: LOS ANGELES, Monday, May 18 (9:59-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

What we think is happening: Most of the team is off to Russia with Arkady. Callen, Sam, Kensi and Deeks are in tactical gear, Callen and Sam are in spiffy suits and Hetty is a cardigan sitting at a desk in what looks like a Russian dacha. There’s Kensi fighting with a knife, Nell giving instructions to be careful and Callen threatening Arkady. A logical extension of last week’s episode.

Be on the lookout: GUEST CAST

Vyto Rugins as Arkady Kolcheck
Bar Paly as Anastasia (Anna) Kolcheck
Paul Duke as Ivan Karposev
Rugins, Paly and Duke were also in “Kolcheck, A.” last week.

David S. Lee as Pavel Volkoff
Was Phillip Jones on Nikita, Whitley Rezza on The Nine Lives of Chloe King, the young Charles Whitmore on Lost and guest starred on Baby Daddy, Castle, CSI, NCIS (Veli Tupolev in “Newborn King” – the 2011 Christmas episode), Chuck, Leverage, CSI: Miami, Charmed, Angel and Alias.

Ray Proscia as Hotel Manager/Mr. Bukin
Proscia has a large number of guest roles in a variety of series and supporting parts in feature films.

Adam Gregor as Distinguished Man
Lots of guest roles with character names like Vlad, Dmitri, Gregor or “The Russian” so he’s probably being distinguishing in Russia.

Maria Zyrianova as Ms. Surnin
A handful of guest appearances, mostly in comedies, with roles like Lina, Ula, Nadia and Russian Bride.

Stevens Gaston as Brice Nimbani
A number of guest starring roles, including Jeff Ross on the NCIS “Reunion” episode in season seven.
Enjoyed his time on the set with “dope cat” Chris O’Donnell:

Dimiter D. Marinov as Driver
Ghenna Kozlov in the “Up in Smoke” NCIS episode (season nine with Dorney, sniff, sniff) and recent guest roles on Agent Carter and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Lots of Russian names again.

Daniel J. Travanti as Man
Speculation time here: The episode is called “Chernoff, K.” but there is no Chernoff, K. in the guest cast. There is a “Man” however. Man = Chernoff?

More speculation: I’ve been wondering what actor the program would hire to play Callen’s father. I figured they’d go for a good TV actor, someone recognizable but of a certain age – an older man. If Daniel J. Travanti is N. Reznikov turned Chernoff, K., that’s wonderful news for the program.

Travanti won a couple of Emmys as Captain Frank Furrillo on Hill Street Blues. He appeared as the President on Prison Break, starred in a failed (but good) series called Missing Persons, played a serial killer addled with Alzheimer’s on Criminal Minds and costarred in the Starz series Boss. Travanti is a fine actor and even if he isn’t Callen’s father, a good person to see in the cast list.

WRITTEN BY: Kyle Harimoto
Wrote “Omni”, “Merry Evasion” and co-wrote “Three Hearts”, “Leipei” and “Humbug”.

DIRECTED BY: John Peter Kousakis
Directed “Imposters”, “Sacrifice”, “San Voir” part one, “The Fifth Man”, “Parley”, “Frozen Lake” and “Inelegant Heart” as well as all the Kensi in Afghanistan scenes used during Daniela Ruah’s maternity leave.

Insider Intel: Nothing up this week so far.

Official Photographic Evidence:

Another photo was sent out when CBS released the episode pictures but it quickly disappeared. It was the team in Russia sitting with Hetty enjoying some tea. Reward for a job well done? A calm moment before a dangerous move? Something to consider.

Unofficial Surveillance:

We heard a great deal from the writer and director in this episode.

Kyle Harimoto on Twitter noted that Joe Wilson helped him with the finale:

Miguel Ferrer is fan:

Daniela Ruah provides an entertaining set photo:

I believe that is Eric Christian Olsen in his tactical gear next to the fellow in the plaid shirt with the hoodie.

Video Surveillance:

Sneak Peek #1:
Action, adventure, tactical outfits and a trip to Govorovo, Russia.

Sneak Peek #2:
Callen and Sam learn the Anna apple didn’t fall too far from the Arkady family tree.

Covert Communications:

The cast is doing an online chat during the episode:

And now we’re preview-less (preview-free) until mid September (we hope). The program is staying in the same Monday hour this year, just with a new neighbor on NBC and a “super” lead-in starting in late October/early November. It has been an honor to preview the show here at Wikideeks – a fun, fun website run by wonderful people.

I can’t wait for the episode.
Great preview. And about Daniel J. Travanti, I loved his character on Criminal Minds. I mean the man was a serial killer, don’t get me wrong, but the actor played him with such an intensity, just wow.
If I’m not mistaken the episode was from season 6 episode 3 “Rememberance of things past” and his name was Lee Mullens, and taught his son how to kill to. He electrocuted his victims, and they were calling him The Butcher.
One of Rossi’s oldest open cases.
However if he is Callen’s father, it’ll be interesting to see that.

  3. Thank you for wonderful previews. It has increased my enjoyment and I will miss it over the summer.

  4. Another great job Tess! I may not read these until after the episode airs in my efforts to avoid spoilers, but it’s still very interesting to look at all the material you assemble with the benefit of hindsight.

We’re so happy to have you on the team!!!
