My Missing Piece: Kensi’s Journal 02/23/2020

It’s weird to hear Callen and Sam discuss bringing new agents onto the team.  It’s weirder still to think of Callen no longer in the field and Sam training the newbies.  Hetty’s been in the game longer than most and deserves a nice long retirement, but this is a LOT of change coming down the road.  

Add to it that Deeks and I are trying to get pregnant, and all I can think is that the end of an era is almost here.  I feel badthough, because Callen and Sam are struggling to come up with one or two people to add, not knowing that when I have a little Deeks in the oven (hopefully sooner than later) they’ll need to find two more.  Still not something I want to share with them until the time actually comes, but I do feel kind of guilty about it.

The trouble the guys are having finding suitable potential teammates really makes me appreciate what it took for Hetty to put our team together.  Especially finding the last, and arguably most difficult piece of the puzzle, for which she ultimately had to look outside of NCIS.  I’m obviously so glad she did, because Deeks ended up being MY missing piece as well.

I’m also glad Deeks was able to keep Jake safe until he got home, even though I missed him backing me up for much of the day (and not just because he totally would have gotten my Joelle-wig joke).  But he was there when I needed him, which is what’s important.  Had I not been able to get that last woman through the fire I have no doubt Deeks would have managed to get us both out safely.  For all the times we’ve (barely) escaped the fire of exploding rooms and buildings, I’ve never actually had to run through a wall of flames.  It was pretty terrifying.  

For a second there I thought my hair had caught fire—good thing I had it pulled back in a braid.  But that reminds me thatI’m well overdue for a cut.  Ooh–maybe it’s long enough that I can donate it to a charity now!  Gotta remember to do some research on that in the morning.  Also have to remember that Mistress Kensi ordered Deeks to deal with his own scruffiness last week.  Just because he (okay, and I) reaped the benefits of that little game later on that night doesn’t mean I won’t hold him to that arrangement.  Looks like Deeks is being a bad boy andneeds another good tongue lashing… 😉
