Rest In Peace: Kensi’s Journal 4/4/21

4/4/21

For all of Kirkin’s faults (including his criminal history and the fact that he wanted my husband to run away with him on our wedding day) he had great taste in men. Aside from our attraction to a certain scruffy, blond, surfer-type NCIS investigator, I never thought Kirkin and I had much in common.  But apparently we would both take a bullet for Deeks too. Incredibly, Anatoli Kirkin did just that today, and he paid the ultimate price.  I also learned that he was a good and brave friend, going to the port to help Arkady rescue Anna despite how dangerous it was.

I know Deeks was a little freaked out (as well as flattered) at times by Kirkin’s attention, but I’ve sensed for a while that it went beyond infatuation.  Kirkin really cared for Deeks (maybe even loved him in his own way), and today I’m so grateful for that, and for the former head of a Russian mob syndicate turned fashion designer.  Now I need to go find and hold my husband.

Покойся с миром, Anatoli Kirkin.  Rest in peace.

Turns out I've been writing fan fiction since before it was a "thing" on the internet (okay, even before there was an internet). I spent many a boring junior high history class coming up with more exciting stories for my favorite soap opera characters. I continue to enjoy the creative outlet it provides in my still-boring but now adult life.

Kirkin definitely had great taste in men and this was a good tribute from Kensi to a character I will really miss. It was a very nice touch to use the Russian for rest with peace.

    • Thanks Sassy. I will miss Kirkin too. I don’t know if Russians actually use the term “rest in peace” but an exhaustive google search (I went all the way to the second page!) didn’t help me find the answer, so I went with it.

  2. Really good. You captured what I would imagine to be Kensi’s thoughts perfectly, and ended on a great note of comfort.

  3. Thank you Karen. I’m still bummed we didn’t get to see an actual hug for that comfort, though.
